Well, chances are that the count of _poorly managed_ windows machines 
in this part of the world is higher than in yours. 
To top it off, a sizable percentage are behind 2 mbit/sec cable/DSL modems,
(think 10% penetration rate), and the grand total quite capable of saturating 
the gigabit links you mention. 
The problems created here are 'interesting'.

So all in all I'm not sure whose situation is worse.

But the issue I wanted to raise indeed is that you should build your gear
in such a way that a virus attack should be no more than a harmless blip
on your daily operations.
If you're worried about these kinds of messages from Reuters or other sources
for your own operations, you're doing something wrong.

As to the ever-growing group of customers joining the net, a well-known person
once said that while the Internet is growing, clue on the net is a constant.
So build your network in such a way that it isn't affected other than
a higher customer support call rate. You can bet these events will continue
to happen, so stop panicing and start preparing. You'll sleep so much better.
