Linux Booting Problem.
Hello all,
I had Red Hat Linux 7.1 installed on a PC. I choosed Lilo boot loader and
all was running fine !
Then i dicided to remove RH Linux 7.1 and install RH Linux 7.3 with the
Grub boot loader on this same PC.
The installation process run well. After installation i tryied to reboot it
but i got the error message "MISSING OPERATING SYSTEM". I only could
successful boot it using the boot disk i had made during the installation
process. Then i tryied to reinstall RH Linux 7.1 back again but when
rebooting i got the same error message "MISSING OPERATING SYSTEM".
Now the only way to boot it is to use the boot disk for Linux 7.3!
I have already tryied to remove and reinstall Lilo (with no success) using
the commands:
/sbin/lilo -u
but i got the error message "FATAL: Timestamp in boot sector of /dev/hda
differs from date of /boot/boot.0300"
So i tryied
/sbin/lilo -U
/sbin/lilo
But when rebooting i still got the error message "MISSING OPERATING SYSTEM".
So i tryied to reinstall lilo the following:
dd if=/boot/boot.0300 of=/dev/hda bs=446 count=1
And i still got the error message "MISSING OPERATING SYSTEM".
At last, I boot the PC using MS-DOS diskette. I tryied to remove Lilo
running the ms-dos FDISK command
fdisk /MBR
But i had no success !
I need your help!
Thanks in advance !
Jose
