[afnog] reverse dns implications

In my case, I have a very long discussion with my ISP to have a reverse
resolution of my affected IP Address.

A lot of customers who manage their own Internet domains and mail server
have this problems and their servers are often blacklisted.

Personally, I had in a past, a lot of problems with mail senders unresolved
reverse resolution.

Finally I accept all mails even if reverse resolution fail, and I'm spammed
to death.

If reverse mappings management is made compulsory by AFRINIC to ISP, it will
be a very good thing and it resolve a lot of communication problems with
ours mail servers by permitting use of enforced rules against spammers.

For example, during about six months I have successfully blocked 100% of
spam made with forged sender email address by using postfix
address_verify_sender and smtpd_helo/client/recipient/data_restrictions
options.

Finally spammers are obliged to use non-forged address that I blocked after
one try by reading logs.

Problems arrived when some servers begun to be less cooperative by
considering asking to them to verify if sender mail exist, is a threat! And
they blacklist me or simply refuse to answer to my email verification
process.

Now I abandon this method!

I thing with a little community accepted rules, we can greatly reduce spam
and identify spammers all over the world.

I hope this day will came soon...

It was much worse ten years ago when almost not one ISP in Africa did
reverse DNS.

I do not find an Afrinic statement asking ISP to manage reverse mappings?

May be when the future RFC "Considerations for the use of DNS Reverse
Mapping" will be publsihed? (It is currently a draft,

draft-ietf-dnsop-reverse-mapping-considerations-06 and seems close to be
adopted by the DNSOP working group.)
