the version of squid i was trying to install is 2.5, from ports like you
already noticed... and on FreeBSD 5.4
Judging from the look of this Makefile, I'm guessing that you are using

i hear you and i twitched a litle mailing this options as i had changed them
in the Makefile (not very bright of me :-( ). problem was, i tried all the
options you have listed and it still felt nothing. i re-updated my ports and
what worked was make WITH_SQUID_DELAY_POOLS, the above options did not work
just as before i updated the ports again.
may be im missing something here or may be im doing something wrong, but
this is not the first time im bitting my finger nails when installing
something from ports on FreeBSD 5.4.
thanks again patrick. and pardon me for that err.
Check the handbook for more details on how to compile from ports.
