I would think you are doing a recovery because you don't have the 'old'
password. You have not told us whether your new password works after the
reboot. The "Would you like to enter the initial configuration dialog?
[yes/no]: *n" *means that you have not configured the router yet. I
don't think that is a problem however as it won't re-appear once you
configure the router.

I do not know the old password, to answer the question. And you have raised the correct observation. The fact that I am being prompted to reconfigure already configured router is where my problem is and this is the whole reason for writing to the list.
Infact in such case I cannot test the new password because I am not being prompted to.
I will try what Gitau and Jean have suggested and come back to the list.
