Hello Rita,
If you want to try to troubleshoot with the specific users, on Mac OS 10,
ask the users to try some different modem configs.
i.e. - go to System Preferences, Network, Select the "built-in modem"
and select the modem tab. From there, they can select:
"Apple Internal Modem (v.92)"
"Apple Internal Modem (v.90)"
"Apple Internal Modem (v.34)"
Ask them to try the different modem configs to see if one will work.
v.34 is probably the best setting for testing. that will slow down the
modem, but should be best for line noise problems, in case that is the
issue.
and, of course, that assumes they have dialed the correct phone number,
username/password are correct, the caps lock key is off, etc.
