Also, there are two types of DNS server: DNS cache, and DNS authoritative.

You would be wise to separate these out as early as possible - even if that
means in the early days running two DNS servers (or two views) running on
two different IP addresses. You can then later pull them out onto two
separate machines without the pain which is normally associated with this
change.

The DNS authoritative server should have recursion turned off, and this
means its memory footprint will be small.
