Although to play Devil's Advocate for a moment: any email originating from a
company server with a company E-mail address can be considered to be an
opinion of or statement made on behalf of the company.

Arguably the company has some rights to monitor what is being said to
outsiders on its behalf. It probably doesn't *want* free exchange of
opinions, and probably *does* want to avoid its employees saying anything
which could be misconstrued.

Also, telephone conversations to customer helpdesks are often recorded "for
quality monitoring", whatever that means, and nobody has a problem with
that.

Just thought I'd offer a bit of balance :-)

Regards,

Brian.
