Even though you already fixed your problem, you should have a closer
look as why the script runs as *root*. I don't think there is any
compelling reason why your script needs root privilege, and there's
*lots* of reasons *not* to run it as root.
You may want to set up a specific user that just has access to
the files it needs to have.
You're running a proper operating system with a proper security model;
you should have compelling reasons before you circumvent it,
and copying/indexing is probably not strong enough a reason.
