Is this a 1900, 2900 or 3500 series switch?

It depends on the revision of the switch. Revision 8 or later, with an RJ-45 port for console access, stand a higher chance of getting upgraded.

But most time, just to play it safe, I'd recommend buying a new enterprise model. It only costs a few hundred dollars on E-Bay.
