We have acquired a Dell PowerEdge 1500 server and want to install
Redhat
Linux 7.2.
The server has 3 SCSI disks and we are working on how to install
these in
a RAID
format.
We noted that RedHat detects the RAID format and loads a MegaRaid
driver
using
Raid 5 and we think that this means that RedHat can use the hardware
RAID
on the
PowerEdge 1500.
Yet the RedHat 7.2 documentation including the RedHat Custom
Guide is
recommending that we install Software Raid first during disk
partitioning
and then
create a Raid Device before installation. I would like to find out if we
have to create
software RAID at all.
I would like to find out if there is anyone who has some experience with
this. Is the
MegaRaid driver loaded by anaconda adequate for us to use the discs
without having to
Make RAID on installation?
What is the best procedure for installating RAID on 7.2 for our
scenario?
Regards,
David
