Note that any pre-built FreeBSD packages have names ending '.tgz', so it's
possible that what you have is not a package, in which case it won't install
using the first command. You will always be unable to unpack it using the
second and then have a poke around the contents to see what it is - you may
find a README or INSTALL file telling you how to compile/install it.
