Dear African colleagues,
The Internet Society is happy to be collaborating with website owners to
coordinate World IPv6 Day on 8 June of this year. We are wondering whether
you had considered bringing up your main website with IPv6 on this day to
join other websites who are doing this.
On 8 June, 2011, Google, Facebook, Yahoo!, Akamai and Limelight Networks
will be amongst some of the major organisations that will offer their
content over IPv6 for a 24-hour "test flight". The goal of the Test Flight
Day is to motivate organizations across the industry - Internet service
providers, hardware makers, operating system vendors and web companies - to
prepare their services for IPv6 to ensure a successful transition as IPv4
addresses run out.
It is important to note that all of these websites, and many others who have
decided to do the same (there is a list here:
http://isoc.org/wp/worldipv6day/participants/), are doing this on their main
website. That is, they are not just setting up a special
ipv6.companyname.org website, but their main website. All of these sites
understand that this will have some impact on some of their users that day,
but nonetheless this is an important step in the transition of IPv6 and all
of them are willing to do so. There is more info on the website
(www.isoc.org/wp/worldipv6day) and especially of interest is the FAQ
(http://isoc.org/wp/worldipv6day/faq/)."
If your organization is an on-line content provider and would like to
participate in the World IPV6 Day by making available its content over IPV6
on June 8, please contact me (bekele at isoc.org) by CCing my colleague Phil
Roberts (roberts at isoc.org).
Thank you,
