Thank You folks for your suggestions and contributions.

It works now.

I needed to upgrade from freebsd 7.2 to 8 using cvsup and make
buildkernel, etc ..  but to no avail. Finally, i had to install from CD
freebsd 8 and everything works now. Before installation, I made backup of
config files and did not lose any data.
