The indoor units (1240s and such) can be put into a "heavy" aka  
autonomous mode by loading a relevant IOS image. None of the  
documentation that is linked from <http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps8368/tsd_products_support_series_home.html 
 > suggests that a 1520 can be put in an "autonomous" mode and are  
only "lightweight" so I think you are out of luck.
