Hi Bryt,
U have some problem with gzip, if you reinstall it, everything will go like a charm,
just do this:
sudo apt-get install --reinstall gzipsudo apt-get cleansudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade


I hope this will work like a 4 seasons Pizza.

This is an error I get when i do apt-get update.

Err http://security.ubuntu.com hardy-security/main Packages 
Sub-process gzip returned an error code (1)

Hi Guys,

For the past few days I have not been able to upgrade my ubuntu servers 8.04 LTS and 10.04 LTS 

if i do apt-get update it starts and then hangs and times out.
If I do apt-get upgrade same thing it times out.

I have tried to change the servers in /etc/apt/sources.list but same thing it fails.

Any one with an idea?
