This looks like your file system is seriously corrrupted, probably by
a physical error on the disks. There is a high level of probability
that you'll have to restart from backups.

Try a 'fsck -y' after restarting from your rescue CD but, while it
works, dig the backups from the closet, you'll probably have to use
them...

And, since there are many system administration questions on this
list, which are not related to the network operations, I suggest that
some people look at the excellent Q&A site ServerFault
<http://serverfault.com/> which is dedicated to system
administration. Unlike your typical Web forum, ServerFault ranks the
answers by the votes received so the "best" answers tend to be at the
top. People gain reputation by the votes they receive so you can sort
out the good advisers from the beginners. And the level of the answers
is indeed quite good (unlike the typical Web forum site where clueless
people spit out random answers).

ServerFault is highly recommended for system administration
questions. See a typical thread at
<http://serverfault.com/questions/4069/lvmext3-vs-ext3-recovery>
