Thank you all for your input. I will configure "Outlook Express" to save all command to/from the server in a log file that I can read in case that the problem happens again.

Three things you may need to look at.
1 -- What changed on his Outlook setting. If for some reason outlook believes that it has never received email for this user before, it will retrieve all the email that was previously received.
2 -- What changed on the server side. I do not know what pop/imap server you are running, but i once saw something strange happen with dovecot. When a users index file got corrupted and was redone, the MUA retrieved all the emails that had previously been downloaded
3 -- Noah already pointed this out. If the MUA was retrieving email and did not complete the streaming, the message flagging done by your imap/pop server is not complete and this message will be retrieved again.

Hi all,
I have a problem with a user's mails being downloaded many times using the same computer. A weeks ago, this user reported that about 400 messages already downloaded in the past were downloaded again as a new mails. FYI, I have configured his client software (Outlookk Express) to leave a copy on the server after downloading. The reason is to allow this user to also have access to his mail form the webmail.
Could somebody tell me what can cause Outlook to download many times the sames messages on the same computer? What solution to my problem?
Thanks
Yaovi

Of course, you might discount this possibility, but remember that one in
a million chances happen 99% of the time.
