The biggest problem I have with amanda is that it doesn't split dumps
across tape boundaries. So you can never have a disk partition (or
directory tree or whatever) whose backup data is larger than the tape,
and if you have 3 backups that each use 60% of the tape size, then you
need 3 tapes, not 2 tapes. If your "tape" is really a huge RAID array,
then you don't care about this.
For new installations, I recommend bacula, or perhaps one of the
rsync-based schemes.
